Locating Pipes and Cables

One key application for Radar is locating pipes and cables. Radar works when cable locators don’t. Radar will (usually) see all the objects, whether metallic or non-metallic
How GPR detects the pipes/ cables

This is what Radar sees (as a cross section)

The pipes and cables show up as parabolas on the section

This image shows the area across the pavement adjacent to a road. These images give depth and position of each service, and it’s depth.

Its possible to see PVC pipes, though the parabola colours are usually less intenseLocating Utilities with Ground Radar
This is an example of “other ” things you can do with GPR.The wider diffractions are air filled channels in a concrete beam, the smaller diffractions are rebar in the concrete

T This is a “3D” version of the image above. The left hand part of the image shows the floor slabs. The Right hand side is a poured concrete slab. The project was to explain why the floor slab was settling. This showed that the construction in the two areas was quite different and this explained the reason for the differential settlement
